Local teams making run at DRS top spot

Union Hill and St. Patrick are riding impressive win streaks as they start to make their way to the top of the DRS Amateur Baseball standings.

Union Hill has won six straight games and it 1/2 game behind Faribault with a 6-1 record. St. Patrick has won three straight games and improves to 6-3 overall, 1 1/2 games back of the Lakers.

Both Union Hill and St. Patrick were helped out when St. Benedict upset Faribault, 4-3 Friday, June 4.

Prior Lake holds down the third spot in the league with a 7-2 record.

Results Friday, June 4 included St. Patrick downing Montgomery (18-0, New Market defeating Northfield (4-1), Elko defeating Dundas (11-1), Union Hill downing Veseli (15-1) and St. Benedict edging Faribault (4-3).

Home runs were a flying for the Irish in their seven inning win over the Mallards. Ryan Fridges hit a pair of home runs and knocked in four runs. Kyle Rhodus and Seth Ambroz were both 3-for-5. Ambroz hit a home run. Zach Seurer pitched six innings and struck out nine.

In a game Saturday, June 5, Lonsdale evened their record at 4-4 with an 11-5 win over Webster.

Sunday also provided a number of long balls, five by Union Hill in their 9-6 win over Montgomery. Nathan Berg hit two while Jack Becker, Derek Masberg, and Conrad Masberg each hit one.

In other Sunday results, Prior Lake defeated winless Shakopee (11-1) in eight innings, Faribault shutout New Prague (10-0) in seven innings, Webster knocked off winless Veseli (12-8), St. Patrick downed St. Benedict (13-3) in seven innings, Miesville routed New Market (15-3), and Hampton pounded Elko (17-1).

Cullen Smith had the big hit for Webster in their victory, smacking a three-run homer.

Joe Grote hit a grand slam home run for Faribault in the second inning, helping the Lakers build a 6-0 lead over New Prague. He hit his second home run of the game a couple of innings later. Nate Rost allowed two hits for the Lakers. Eric Wagner nearly hit a home run for the Orioles, doubling off the fence.

Luke Tupy pitched six innings and struck out 10 for the Irish in the win over the Saints. Kai Brohmer and Ryan Friedges each hit long balls for St. Pats.

Standings in the DRS as of June 6 were Faribault (7-1), Union Hill (6-1), Prior Lake (7-2), St. Patrick (6-3), Lonsdale (4-4), New Prague (4-4), St. Benedict (4-6), Webster (3-6), Montgomery (3-7), Shakopee (0-8), and Veseli (0-9).
