Helen M. Javurek, 101

Helen M. Javurek, age 101, of New Prague, died peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center.  Helen was born on August 16, 1917 in Wheatland Township, Rice County to Frank and Mary (Chromy) Shambour, Jr.  She attended Rice County district school and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School.  Helen married Stephen T. Javurek on May 3, 1938 in New Prague and the couple raised their three children on a hobby farm in New Prague.  She worked at Jasan Sewing Factory, Green Giant, and Munsingwear at various times of her life.  Helen loved gardening and was famous for her beautiful flower gardens.  She liked to sew, creating Barbie doll clothes for her grandchildren.  She was an avid fisherwoman and loved to play cards and as recently as Thanksgiving, played Euchre with her family.

 Helen is survived by her children, Jeanette (George) Korbel of Kilkenny, Benjamin (Barb) Javurek of Burnsville; daughter-in-law, Annette Javurek of Garvin, MN; brother, Jim (Lavonne) Shambour of New Prague; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen on July 26, 2001; son, George; grandchild, Francis Korbel; sister, Marion Sticha.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March, 23, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.  The eulogy will be delivered at 10:15.  Visitation will take place 2 hours prior to Mass from 8:30 – 10:15.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the Legion Clubroom. bruzekfuneralhome.com
