Gary Michael “Hammer” Flicek, 69

Gary Michael “Hammer” Flicek, 69, of Montgomery passed away peacefully at his home after an eleven-year battle against cancer, surrounded by family and friends on August 4, 2021.

Funeral services and visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 18^th, 2021, at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Montgomery, MN. Visitation will be held from 12:30p.m.-3:30p.m with mass to follow. Burial will be at a later date. Luncheon will be held at the American Legion in Montgomery. Officiating will be Father Thomas Neihaus.

Gary was born on August 19, 1951, to Ralph and Mildred Flicek. He was the second oldest of ten children. Gary grew up on the family farm and developed a deep love for fishing from his Grandpa Sempaur at a young age. Throughout his life, Gary carried his love for fishing where he was semi- pro and traveled to different states to compete in bass tournaments and enjoyed teaching others about the sport. Gary made his own homemade fishing lures and he named his business “Hammer’s Baits”. When Gary was diagnosed with leukemia on January 24, 2010, Gary believed his hobby in making lures was his lifeline. Gary was employed at Ermak Foundry where he was forced to retire after 32 years.

Gary is survived by his wife Cindy (Way) Flicek of 25 years; son Jeremy (Traci) Flicek of Lakeville; daughter Jocelyn Flicek of Montgomery; and daughter Jessica Flicek of Lakeville.  Gary also had 6 grandchildren  and 4 great-grandchildren, mother Mildred Flicek, siblings: Dave (Charlotte) of Lonsdale, Paul (Kathy) of Webster, Kenny (Ginny) of Lonsdale, Tim (Kelly) of Milaca, Gerise (Dennis) Silvers of Lonsdale, Sandy (Paul) Deutsch of Lonsdale, Troy of Lonsdale, Mike (Cathy) of Northfield, Mark (Carol) of Lonsdale.

He is proceeded in death by his father Ralph Flicek, his grandparents, aunts and uncles, great-nephew and mother-in-law.
