Czech Heritage Club participates in International Festival

Members of the Czech Heritage Club spread the word about its organization and heritage over the weekend.

Three board members, Violet Chromy, George Mikiska, and Jim Simon, attended the festival in Faribault.

Chromy, President of the club in New Prague, carried the Czech flag in the parade of nations. She was also asked to speak about the symbolism of the Czech flag. She explained that it uses the colors red, white, and blue from the old Coat of Arms of Bohemia. The white, she said, stands for the peaceful nature and honesty of the Czech people. The red symbolizes the courage, valor, and patriotism of the Czech Republic first recognized as a nation in 1918. The blue of the flag symbolizes vigilance, truth, loyalty and perseverance.

There were approximately 35 nations represented at this event – each having a flag bearer and providing a booth where patrons could sample national foods or arts crafts. The Czech Heritage Club provided kolacky and zelniky.
