Pioneer Power Show enjoys good attendance, weather

A large crowd and good weather greeted The Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Show Friday Aug. 27, through Sunday, Aug. 29. The annual show features tractors of all years, sizes and models.

“We had extremely good attendance this year,” said Bill Thelemann of the Pioneer Power Tractor Show. “We dodged the main (predicted) rain storms.”

Thelemann didn’t have final numbers, but he thought they had more tractors than past years thanks, in part, to this year’s sponsor Ford Fordson Collectors Association, Inc., which brought in people from all over the country. He said they had quite a few newer tractors this year, and the ladies Demonstration Building “was full.”

The mini-railroad was also a hit with the kids waiting to ride the small train.

“A lot of families, the first thing the kids asked when they came through the entrance was, ‘Where’s the mini-railroad?’”

Also a big draw among youngsters was the children’s playground with a gravity box wagon that had basketball hoops added to it that caused grain to fall when someone made a basket.

Thelemann said attendance was up from other years. “There were a lot of people with smiles on their faces,” he said. “There were a lot of families, several were pulling wagons with their kids. It was worth all of the hard work and waiting a year.”

Attending the show is family tradition for Jeff Tuma and his daughter Samm, both of New Prague who have watched and participated in it for a long time. The first year Jeff participated was after....
