Runs and strikeouts lead to TCU Victory

Spot on pitching and an 11-run first inning led to the Tri-City United baseball team’s first win of the season in their home opener over Mayer Lutheran Monday in Le Center.

“They did a lot of things well,” said Titan’s coach Bruce Davis after the game. “They set a tone and came out ready to play. Overall it was very, very positive.”

The Titan pitching was lead by ace starter Kody Glende, who Davis said he believes is the best pitcher in the conference. “He came out focused and did everything I asked of him and more,” Davis said of Glende.

The senior pitched the first three innings of the five inning game, throwing mostly fastballs and hardly any curveballs.

Glende said he felt good about his pitching, but was admittedly nervous to start.

“I had the first game Jitters but I focused on the zone,” Glende said. “It was nice to throw strikes.”

In the second inning he allowed two walks, but also struck out three batters. The first strikeout was a dropped third strike and tag out by the catcher, the second was a strikeout swinging and the third was a foul tip catch by the catcher.

In the third inning, Glende was in the zone again, throwing more strikes than balls. He recorded another three strikeouts and only allowed one runner on base in the inning.
