Letter from the Mayor

Thomas E. Eisert
To the residents and property owners of the City of Montgomery. I’d like to take a moment to thank all of you that were able to attend at least one of the town hall sessions and/or reached out to city council, staff, or myself for additional information or feedback. Most sessions were well attended, residents shared their thoughts and your voices were heard.
What are our next steps? Through community feedback, I personally think it’s fair to say the community has expressed the importance/priority to continue improving our infrastructure and needs. Alongside of that is the reasonable expectation to do so in a fiscally responsible manner.
What kind of alternatives are available? During the presentation, several different options beginning with doing nothing to pausing capital improvements for several years to hybrid improvement planning to continue as originally planned and finishing with looking for other funding opportunities were discussed. The positive outcome was the input community partners shared. Those discussions led to additional idea and options to be considered and identified ranging impacts of what each option could be.
How do we achieve our goals? City council, staff, and community partners will need to reevaluate the original aggressive approach established several years ago in 2019 and step back for some time to make room for meaningful discussions and fresh ideas. I think it’s safe to say the city council is far from reaching an optimal path and we can’t achieve that without your help and support. When several reasonable options are established, I can see coming together as a community again to present those ideas for more feedback and input on decision making.
It’s important to keep in mind that all city council meetings and workshops are open to the public. City council holds a work session the first Monday of the month and a regular meeting the third Monday of the month. All agendas are available online along with an email notification sign up page to have agendas sent directly to you. If you can attend upcoming meetings, please do so or contact a city council member, staff, or myself to share your thoughts.
The common goal is to create a safe welcoming community we all can be proud of. Maintaining a community to that standard isn’t easy work, but by working together, we’re better.
Respectfully,
— Thomas E. Eisert
