City enacts outdoor watering ban

Effective Wednesday, June 23, 2021, until further notice, the City of Montgomery has issued a water emergency and watering ban.

Due to “extremely low water levels” from the drought-like weather and increased use of community members using irrigation systems, the watering ban is in effect from 12 to 6 p.m. every day of the week.

The Emergency Outdoor Watering Ban restricts outdoor watering (lawn irrigation and vehicle washing) to an odd/even schedule between 6 p.m. to 11 a.m.:

• Property owners with even-numbered addresses are allowed to water, sprinkle, or irrigate their lawns on even-numbered days.

• Property owners with odd-numbered addresses are allowed to water, sprinkle, or irrigate their lawns on odd-numbered days.

Handheld watering of flowers, gardens and landscaping is also permitted. Pool filling (both wading and swimming pools) is permitted, as is using water toys/water sprinklers for children who are actively playing.
According to a press release, Public Works Utility crews will be constantly monitoring the city’s water levels to determine when the city is at a safer level.
“We will not issue citations for those who use non-city sources for irrigation, but encourage cooperation with the ban if possible,” the release states. “The City of Montgomery appreciates your cooperation at this time. We need to work together to keep our community safe!”
