Youth wrestlers perform well at State

A total of 14 wrestlers from the WEM Grizzly Youth Wrestling Club competed in the NYWA Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament Thursday, March 30 through Sunday, April 2 at the Rochester Civic Center.

The junior high team competed and won one of their five dual matches, placing third in the Pool 8 Bracket. Each of the following wrestlers got five matches:

Jacksten Knish (85 pounds), Brenden Masso (95 pounds), BreAna Masso (105 pounds), Parker James (115 pounds), Trey Richards (125 pounds), Trent Huber (135 pounds), Ben Root (150 pounds), Kavan Sheehy (160 pounds), and Dakota Blaisdell (235 pounds).

Luke Root, a coach for the Grizzlies, said their goal was to get a lot of mat time and he said some of the kids really got it.

6th grader Dakota Blaisdell wrestled 10 times in a 30 hour time period.

8th grader BreAna Masso wrestled 9 times in 30 hour time period.

8th graders Ben Root and Parker James both wrestled 8 times in a 26 hour time period.

6th grader Brenden Masso wrestled 7 times in a 30 hour time period.

1st grader Jacee Knish wrestled 8 times in 2 1/2 days.
