Local duo places third at State B.A.S.S. Tourney

A little known high school extra curricular activity may have landed a pair of local fisherman into a national competition.

WEM senior Bryce Bohlen and Mankato West senior Payton Goettlicher advanced to the Minnesota Junior B.A.S.S. High School Fishing Championships by way of their performances throughout the conference season which was held this past summer.

This fishing duo qualified for State, which was held Sept. 11 and 12 at Gull Lake in Brainerd by way of doing well in three qualifying tournaments which were held on Lake Tetonka, Lake Minnewaska, and Lake Jefferson. They finished fourth in the conference season, trailing teams from Kasson-Mantorville, Owatonna, and Lake Crystal.

More than 300 teams of two fishermen or women from throughout the state competed this season and Bohlen and Goettlicher finished third in the State Championship.
